This month at Collekt we had the honor of having Illustrator Dave Stolte speak. Dave studied Studio Art at California State University Long Beach, then spent twenty-five years in the world of design doing other people’s work before finding his own voice. The inclusion of “evidence of the hand” is central to his work – torn edges, smudges, mistakes, unfinished parts – all these combine with a warm, playful, and hopeful message to bring a welcoming energy to his illustrations. Dave’s work has been recognized by the Society of Illustrators New York in their prestigious Illustrators 51 annual book & show for 2009, was selected for the juried 2010 ICON6 Roadshow, and was Grand Prize winner in theCut&Paste 2010 Los Angeles competition.
